Suckling once again crowns Altos R Pigeage Graciano as one of the best Spanish wines
The prestigious American wine taster highlights Altos de Rioja for the fifth year in its ranking 'TOP 100 wines of Spain 2023' published in November.
Altos de Rioja stands out for the fifth year in the list of the best Spanish wines by the prestigious American sommelier James Suckling. In the classification 'Top 100 wines of Spain 2023' published this November, he crowns Altos R Pigeage Graciano 2021 as one of the most exceptional wines in Spain.
In order to compile this list, Suckling has tasted almost 3,800 references from all over the country. In his latest tasting, the sommelier awarded 94 points out of 100 to the Altos R Pigeage Graciano and described it as "a graciano with nerve and impressive character". On the nose "it is deep, with a touch of pepper", and on the palate, it is "full-bodied with fine tannins that caress the palate".
The Altos R Pigeage Graciano is a round, oily and velvety wine, 100% Graciano variety, aged for 15 months in 85% French and 15% American oak barrels.
Altos R Pigeage Graciano, one of Suckling's favourites of its variety
This is not the first time that the critic highlights Pigeage Graciano, which has been part of this prestigious list for the last two years, and in previous editions, he has also included Altos R Pigeage (2021, 2020 and 2018). Furthermore, in another report, Suckling describes the Altos R Pigeage Graciano as "one of the best of the variety" and recommends it as "a reference for getting to know and tasting the characteristics of these varietals".
In addition, last June Suckling highlighted, for the fifth consecutive year, several Altos de Rioja wines as exceptional: Altos R Pigeage Graciano 2021, Altos R Pigeage 2020, XAI Alt 2020 and Altos R Pigeage Blanco 2021.
